Family Member (African American):

Diversity- differences such as race
and gender
Friend (Panamanian):

clothing, and the ways and reasons things are done
Diversity- a lot of different things
Colleague (Caucasian):
Culture- refers to the ways
different people do different things
Diversity- a variety of things, for
example, race
Which aspects of culture and diversity that I have studied
in this course are included in the answers I received—and what are some
examples?
Surface culture- - how cultures are
viewed only be what can be seen. (clothing, food, music)
Which aspects have been omitted—and what are some examples
of such omission?
Deep culture - - religion, marriage,
gestures, ethics
In what ways has thinking about other people’s definitions
of culture and diversity influenced my own thinking about these topics?
I realized that no matter the
race/ethnicity, we all seem to come up with similar definitions of culture and
diversity. No one seems to discuss the deeper meanings of those topics.

ReplyDeleteHi Ashley,
ReplyDeleteI have discovered that culture is actually very broad and covers many different elements. I thought that I had the same culture as many of my friends but after viewing the deep culture list I realize that we are all very different.
