- Do you find yourself communicating differently with people from different groups and cultures? If yes, in what ways do you communicate differently?
Yes, I do find
myself communicating differently with people from different groups and
cultures. I always thought I was the same no matter who I communicated with,
but that is not the case since I have really evaluated myself. When I am with
my family or close friends, my communication with them is very relaxed and
informal. On the other hand, when I am around colleagues, people I am not
familiar with, or even in public, I am more formal and not very relaxed as I am
around family and close friends.
Based on what I
have learned so far in this course, I could communicate more effectively by
being mindful of my body language, gestures, eye contact, and the Platinum Rule
while communicating with others. I have already started practicing these
strategies.
Hi Ashley,
ReplyDeleteI wish I could be more relaxed around people who I am not familiar with. On the other hand, when I am too relaxed, that is when my goofy and silly side come out:) I am very tense around people I do not know; I wonder if this is normal?
The strategies you mentioned are very important. I was amazed during our discussion of the platinum rule. I think everyone should practice this rule everyday.
Hi Ashley,
ReplyDeleteIt was wonderful reading your post.I think listening is the most important aspect of communicating with any group or persons. When you listen, you are able to hear and see what is really being communicated. When a person fails to listen, the conversation/discussion becomes pointless. I am glad you are considering communicating more effectively by being mindful of body language, gestures, eye contact, and the Platinum Rule while communicating with others.
Hi Ashley,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post. I think applying the Platinum Rule is an extremely effective skill to have when communicating with different people. This is because it can help avoid misunderstandings between people.
